A. Your house smells like rougaille,briyani or carri poule.

B. When you tell your parents you got 98% in an exam, and they ask you what happened to the other two percent.

C. You turn up at the airport at the Air Mauritius check in with everything but the kitchen sink

D. You call an older person you've never met before Tonton and then have to kiss him and his wife -Tantine because she remembered you  when you  were  little.

E. You hide everything from your parents including the bottles of Green  Island and phoenix beer.

F. Everyone is a family friend.

G. You went to a university as far away from home as possible  and felt  very proud when you cooked rougaille for the first time but  you still  came  back home to live with your parents after you had finished.

H. You like meat in your la daube well done.

I. You use mazavarou instead of tomato ketchup.

J. You say you hate Indian film / songs because you are Mauritian but secretly watch/listen them with your ......parents

K. You teach Westerners swear words in Creole --favorite being  l....i to mama.

L. You avoid public places when with a memeber of the opposite  sex in case "Tantine" sees you and tell your parents.

M. You are walking out of customs at SSR airport and you see  all possible  members of your family who have come to pick you up and  because the guys  at customs are "famille" they let you through anyway with all  your  excess  baggage as long as you slip them a bottle of whisky.

N. You get very upset when Air Mauritius refuses to accept your luggage  which is 80lbs overweight and so decide to bribe somebody with  a  present.

O. You go back to Mauritius and people treat you like royalty by stuffing you with gateaux piments, Dholl puris, Eski and gateaux Napolitain.

P. You ask your father a simple question and he tells you the  story of  how  he had to walk miles to get to school.

Q. You have annoying nicknames but they tend to be "mackrel,makro"

R. Your parents are always comparing you to all of their friend's  children  and they are always doing better than you ( "garcon la ena ene  top job")

S. No one seems to call ahead of time to say they are coming  for a visit.

T. Your parents drive a car with a big red ribbon on the  mirror to "tiremoffin".
